Jerry retired from Caterpillar Tractor Inc. in June of 1999 and we started out on the greatest adventure of our lives. We looked at several log home manufacturers before we found Appalachian Log Structures, Inc. When we looked at those exposed heavy timber beams and beautiful pine ceilings everything else was blah! blah! blah! The things that come standard with Appalachian are upgrades with other companies.
One of our dreams was to own a log home, the other was to operate a Bed and Breakfast. We built the Greenbrier model to be the B&B and the standard plan required only a few modifications. We wanted every room to have a private bath, and we needed an office. We found the drafting department easy to work with and eager to fulfill our needs.
When we got the call from Appalachian about possibly being Independent Sales Representatives, we looked back at all the people who came here because it was a log home and sirens started going off! This is a perfect fit. We not only joined two dreams together, we put those dreams to work for us.
We bought 20 acres of timberland in the foothills
of the Quachita Mountains in July of 1996.
We have had so many guests come and stay with us because we are in a log home. They all ask the same questions, and I always explain about the construction. People tell me “you must be a carpenter.” Nothing could be further from the truth. I tell them “if I can do it, anyone can do it.” I had minimal carpentry skills, I could build tool sheds and dog houses, and I’m not afraid to try.
