Beginning in 1985, Russ and Marj Bees spent their summer vacations visiting over 30 log home manufacturers before deciding to build a modified Crockett model on their timbered property, located between Des Moines and Indianola, Iowa. Construction began in the summer of 1989, and it soon became evident that others were also interested in quality log homes!

In 1991, the Bees started Summerset Log Homes, using their new home as their model. Their first customer was a couple in their 70s who had been talking of building a log home for forty years.

Over the years, Russ and Marj have helped many families realize their dream of building a log home. They enjoy visiting with people who attend their monthly Open House events, as well as those who request individual appointments.
