On our 21st wedding anniversary, we traveled to the Snowshoe, West Virginia area for the very first time. The “almost Heaven” scenery was breath-taking—the mountains, the rivers, and the wildlife. We quickly fell in love with the region. During our stay, we contacted a local realty and began searching for the perfect retirement property, where we could eventually build our dream log home. In December of 1999, we purchased a 6-acre tract of wooded property that borders the Monongahela National Forest. After a few years of tent camping and renting the neighbor’s house trailer, we decided the time was right to start planning our log home.
